Another company bought control of Nabors, but went bankrupt soon after. A couple of investors, Gene Isenberg and Marty Whitman, stepped in and made the company what it is today. By drilling overseas and buying up other successful drilling companies, they were able to grow Nabors and turn it into $17 billion company.
